Settling in

We are slowly settling in. This week we tried one (of the gazzillion) local restaurants for dinner, very nice. And we got a zipcar (car sharing) over the weekend! Like proper New Yorkers we want to get out of here over the weekend as its just unbelievably hot. So we went camping up in CT, river kayaking (much too exciting for my taste) and relaxing under the stars.

Next week the plan is to go see Mets on Tuesday, the tidy the flat for our first guest who will stay over on Sat night when we are going to a jazz club and, more importantly, for pineapple martinis. Sunday we have tickets to see Jerusalem - hoping it will be as good as the reviews imply.

I am going to order blinds tomorrow. They will cost and arm and a leg but supposedly will retain the view while keeping the heat and sunlight out. We will see...

View in the morning (6AM) and evening (10PM).

We need blinds but until then we just enjoy the view.

Moved

All moved and almost all packed up. We need a bigger book case so the last items are books to be unpacked or donated.

Noted another odd American thing: in our lift there is no eye contact, hellos and absolutely no chit chat. JD tried talking to the girl who lives next door saying 'Hi we are your new neighbours' and she looked at him as if he had two heads.

This is now added to other odd things like the very low toilets, single ply loo paper everywhere and insane tipping habits.
